Wallace Monument

The National Wallace Monument is one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, a magnificent 67-metre (220ft) Victorian Gothic sandstone tower standing proudly on Abbey Craig, overlooking Stirling and the surrounding landscape. Completed in 1869 and funded by public subscription, the monument honours Sir William Wallace, Scotland’s legendary freedom fighter who led Scottish forces to victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297 during the Wars of Scottish Independence. The monument’s striking architectural design features intricate stonework, crown-topped turrets, and commanding views that stretch across central Scotland, including Stirling Castle, the Forth Valley, and the distant Highlands.
